Alexandra advises and litigates for clients in the cultural, music and creative sectors. She acts, among others, for artists, creative professionals, producers and entrepreneurs within these industries.
Her practice focuses on protecting and exploiting intellectual property rights – such as copyright, music rights, trade marks and designs – and on drafting and reviewing contracts and employment law matters.
Her approach is aimed at genuinely helping clients move forward with advice that is workable, well thought out and legally sound. In doing so, she considers it at least as important that you understand what is at play, what choices you have, and what their consequences are.
Alexandra has an eye for nuance, without losing sight of the bigger picture. She is always looking for how something can be done. She quickly sees where the problem lies, and just as quickly what is needed to move forward.
What comes into play legally is rarely black and white. It is a balancing act between protection and room to manoeuvre, between smart arrangements and workable solutions. And sometimes it is simply necessary to defend your position, sharply and with conviction.
Additional activities
Alexandra teaches law at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, on the Performing Arts Production programme. Alexandra also sits on the board of the Stories On Sound foundation and the Buysse & Joosten foundation, is a member of the audit committee of the Association for Art, Culture and Law and is a member of the Copyright Association and Young Stedelijk.
